Caples leads VHS over St. Martin on Tuesday

Vicksburg High School girls basketball team, led by head coach Troy Stewart, bounced back hard from last week’s loss to Brandon and came up with a 59-42 win over St. Martin on Tuesday.

The Missy Gators refused to take it easy on St. Martin and quickly took a 19-10 lead by the end of the first quarter.

Janiah Caples dominated from start to finish and ended the night with 19 points, four rebounds and four steals.

Layla Carter and Ja’Na Colenburg got 12 a piece on the board while VHS maintained their lead going into halftime. Carter also had five steals and three assists.

Kierra James finished with eight points, followed by Kalia Bland who had four. Destini Sims and Cynia Johnson who added two points each.

VHS will play again on Nov. 30 against Northwest Rankin.
