Vicksburg High School Head Basketball Coach Kelvin Carter received his 100th career victory in a 73-60 win over Callaway on Tuesday night.

Davian Williams led with 17 points and Tyler Henderson added 13 while Jaylin Jackson put up 11. Malik Franklin scored eight in the win and Markel Derby contributed six and Mikey Johnson scored five while Kamryn Bailey put up four.

Carter, who is in his sixth season as the Gators’ Head Coach, is off to the best start of his career as VHS quickly went on a 10-game winning streak at the beginning of the season.

With Gators finishing under .500 last year as they were in a rebuilding season, many wondered about the success of the program, but Carter’s leadership has proven to be a blessing within the Gator community.

As he took over the program in 2017, Carter has kept things afloat by leading the Gators to the playoffs every year, along with capturing wins over top-notched teams such as No.1 ranked Clinton in 2021.

The Gators have been having a memorable season so far as they stand with a 17-2 record and are currently still ranked in the top 10 in the state of Mississippi.

Carter was named the VDN 2020-2021 Head Basketball Coach of the Year, among receiving statewide recognition by being selected to coach in the Mississippi North/South All-Star Game on multiple occasions.

This time last year, the Gators were struggling to find a win, but now they are at the top of their game with the right man continuing to call the shots.

For those who doubted Carter’s leadership skills, he is quietly proving them wrong, yet again, with wins continuing to add up every week.
