A man wanted by Carthage Police Department was apprehended last week by Warren County Sheriff’s Office after receiving a tip from a concerned citizen.

On May 19, just after 11 a.m., a citizen reported a gray Ford Fusion was sitting on Jeff Davis Road, just east of Hwy 61, in the Yokena community.

Sheriff’s Deputies Hunter Anderson and Detective Zac Primeaux arrived on the scene in less than five minutes and ran the tag on the vehicle. It came back as a stolen vehicle out of Carthage, Mississippi.

“Deputy Jerry Davidson began a foot search of that general area and found a white male on the church property of the Yokena Presbyterian Church, which is nearby,” said Sheriff Martin Pace.

Believing the individual may have been associated with the stolen vehicle, deputies detained the man, Robert Chambers, 51, of Carthage. Deputies checked with the Carthage Police Department and discovered they had warrants for Chambers’ arrest on an assault charge. There was also an ongoing investigation involving him.

Sheriff Pace went on to say, “Carthage PD came to Vicksburg that afternoon, picked him up and took him back to Carthage. We towed and impounded the vehicle. We received word today of their official charges. He’s been charged with aggravated assault and rape. He was already on parole for a statutory rape charge several years ago.”

“Thanks to an alert citizen’s call and deputies going the extra step to check the immediate area, he’s in custody. Far as we know no crimes were committed in Warren County and he is in the Lincoln County jail charged with aggravated assault and rape. And he has a detainer on him, from my understanding, from the Department of Corrections for parole violations.”
