The younger Newton began last season at Howard University in Washington, D.C., as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Preseason Player of the Year. He left the team in October and announced his intention to transfer.
At Howard, he was the 2017 MEAC Rookie of the Year. As a sophomore, Newton was named the conference’s Offensive Player of the Year.
In 2018, Newton completed 156 of 304 passes for 2,629 yards, 22 touchdowns and 17 interceptions while adding 504 yards rushing.
Because he is entering Auburn as a graduate transfer, Newton will be eligible to play this upcoming season without having to sit out a season. All eyes will be on him to see if he can produce the same outcome that his brother did at Auburn a decade ago.
Cam Newton, who transferred from Florida, put together one of the best seasons in college football history while at Auburn in 2010, scoring a combined 51 touchdowns (30 passing, 20 rushing, one receiving) while leading his team to an undefeated record and a last-minute win over Oregon in the BCS title game.
This summer, Caylin Newton will fight for the starting quarterback position against Bo Nix who led the team to a 9-4 season last year.
