Vicksburg High School football player Ced Phillips has received the VHS Male Athlete of the Year award for the 2019-2020 school year.

Phillips had a breakout season in the 2019 football season where he led the Gators with 1,231 rushing yards. He was the first player in the last eight seasons at VHS to rush over the 1,000 yard mark.

After Phillips completed his senior, he committed to play football on the next level at Hinds Community College for the 2020 football season.

Phillips played his final two seasons at VHS under former head coach Tim Hughes. On the field, Phillips is known for his quickness and ability to run through some of the toughest defenses in the state. He played most of his senior season with a broken finger, but he never allowed that to slow him down as he became the Gator’s lead rusher in the 2019 season.

Phillips finished his final football game as a Gator in November where he led VHS to a 28-27 victory. He will soon be headed to Raymond, Mississippi to play for the Hinds CC Eagles, where he plans to make a great impact just as he did as a Gator.
