There are few folks raised in Vicksburg that do not have a story or two about Rev. H.D. Dennis (or “Preacher”), Miss Margaret and Margaret’s Grocery.  There are more than a few folks that were just passing through with stories of their own.

Today would have been Rev. Dennis’ 105th birthday.  Suzi Altman, founder of the Mississippi Folk Art Foundation and dear friend to both Preacher and Miss Margaret, has decided to celebrate his day in honor of his life’s work – and invites you to join her.

This Saturday, March 27, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Altman and the foundation are hosting a clean-up event at the Margaret’s Grocery site.  Weather permitting, of course, and masks will be required.  For more information on the event, please call 601-668-9611 or email suzisnaps@aol.com.

If you would like to contribute to the preservation and restoration of the grocery, but you are unable to attend this weekend’s event, you can also donate to the foundation here.
