Central Mississippi in for another bumpy ride with severe storms today
One week after deadly tornadoes claimed 14 lives in the state on Easter Sunday, Mississippi will experience more strong storms this afternoon into the evening hours.
“Severe storms are likely this afternoon into tonight across the entire ArkLaMiss,” the National Weather Service in Jackson says on its website. “Tornadoes will be likely (*some possibly strong), with damaging winds up to 70 mph, along with large hail up to tennis ball size.”
Areas of flash flooding are likely and some roads could be flooded or closed. Some structures may be potentially threatened by high water. Minor river flooding is also possible.
In the Vicksburg area, showers and thunderstorms will begin mainly after 1 p.m. South southwest wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.
Rain will stop around 10 p.m. Winds tonight could gust as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.
