Ceremony marks the official naming of Margaret Gilmer Bridge

A ceremony  took place on Monday afternoon to officially name and dedicate the Margaret Gilmer Bridge, paying tribute to an influential figure whose contributions to Vicksburg’s economic development were widely recognized. Margaret Gilmer, a distinguished businesswoman and dedicated community volunteer, played a pivotal role in shaping the city through her extensive involvement with the Economic Development Foundation (EDF) and her leadership in various business ventures.

Margaret Gilmer passed away on Jan. 2, 2022, leaving behind a remarkable legacy of achievements that have left an indelible impact on Vicksburg’s growth and progress.

As the Chairwoman of the EDF in 2021, Margaret Gilmer spearheaded numerous initiatives to drive economic growth in Vicksburg and Warren County. Her dedication to fostering economic prosperity and community advancement was unparalleled. Prior to her tenure at the EDF, she served as Chairwoman of the Warren County Port Commission and contributed significantly as a member of the Warren County Chamber of Commerce. Mrs. Gilmer’s unwavering commitment to the economic well-being of the community led to several positive developments in the region.

Among her notable accomplishments, Mrs. Gilmer oversaw the successful revitalization of the former Outlets of Vicksburg. Additionally, she played an instrumental role in the completion of the final phase of the frontage road, which established a vital connection between Clay Street and Indiana Avenue, significantly enhancing accessibility and paving the way for future growth.
