Chairwoman of the Vicksburg-Warren Economic Development Foundation, Margaret Gilmer, has died
Chairwoman of the Vicksburg-Warren Economic Development Foundation Margaret Gilmer died on Jan. 2 after a brief illness.
Gilmer dedicated many years to serving Vicksburg and Warren County, previously serving as chairwoman to the Warren County Port Commission and the Warren County Chamber of Commerce.
“I knew Margaret well,.” stated President of the Warren County Board of Supervisors Kelle Barfield. “It’s a statement of the fragility of life that’s a sobering reminder to all of us. She was so valuable, she loved Warren County, she used her role as a business leader for the best interest of Warren County in so, so many ways.”
Barfield went on to state that this leaves a void in several official capacities. “But more than that she leaves a void in our heart,” she added. “I know it’s going to be a tough next few days and weeks as [the family] wrestles with what happened, but our prayers are with them all.”
“I was very saddened by the news and certainly send my love, prayers and thoughts to the family. Margaret was a pillar of the community and she had her hands in so much going on in Warren County, Vicksburg and made good things happen around here. It was always great to see her when I did, she always was a positive person,” stated Blake Teller, County Attorney. “It is difficult to name someone who has been as impactful to the community as Margaret Gilmer,” Teller said.
One main area of impact that will remain as part of her legacy is the frontage road which is to open soon. A resolution has been submitted to name the bridge that will connect Clay Street to Indiana Avenue in her honor.
