Charles ‘Charlie’ Buck, Sr., 1947 – 2023

Funeral services for Charles ‘Charlie’ Buck, Sr., 75, who died Saturday, January 14, 2023, will be held at 2p.m., Saturday, January 21, at Magnolia M.B. Church with Rev. Hugh Johnson officiating; Rev. James Buck, Jr. will do the eulogy. Burial will be in Welcome Baptist Cemetery with Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will be Friday, from 1p.m. until 5p.m. at the Thompson Funeral Home Chapel with family hour from 6:30p.m. until 7:30p.m. at Welcome Baptist Church, and Saturday, from 1p.m. until service time at Magnolia M.B. Church.
Mr. Buck was a member, deacon, and Sunday School Superintendent at Welcome Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. John Blount. He worked at LeTourneau Inc. for 25+ years, and Bruce Hardwood, Inc. for over 15 years. He was also a member of the Gospel Soul Savers for over 50 years. Mr. Buck was a long time volunteer with the Port Gibson Heritage Festival and served on the Port Gibson Main Street Board of Directors for 6 years. He joined New Zion Lodge in 1968 and elevated to several Masonic bodies and served as follows: Past High Priest Anderson Royal Arch #40, Past Joshua of Jacob Court #22, Past Eminent Commander of Job Commander of Knight Templar, Past Ambassador of Love and Harmony #5, Past Commander in Chief of Solomon Consistory, State Chief, Council of Deliberation of 32/33 degree, Supreme Most Excellent High Priest of Royal Arch Masons of the United States and Canada. Lastly, he was elevated to the 95th Degree, Patriarch Grand Conservator General of the Ancient Primitive Rite of Memphis Mesiram in March 2022.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Isreal Buck, Sr. and Minnie Lou Thompson Buck; a son, Michaelangelo C. Buck; three brothers, Isreal Buck, Jr., Johnny Buck and Rev. James Buck; and two sisters, Daisy West and Rose Daniels.
Mr. Buck is survived by his wife, Lula B. Buck of Port Gibson, MS; two sons, Carlos Buck of Byram, MS and Charles H. Buck, Jr. of Dallas, TX; a daughter, Ruth Buck of Port Gibson, MS; 2 brothers, LeeDell Buck and Louis A. Buck, both of Port Gibson, MS; 3 sisters, Beatrice Windmon of Hermanville, MS, Willye Pigott of Jackson, MI, and Dorothy Harris, of Jackson, MS; 5 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
