VICKSBURG, Miss. — It is with great sadness that the family of Charles Vernon Stevenson, 80, announces his passing on August 25, 2025.

Vernon was born on November 17th, 1944, to Oliver Vonley and Rachel Elizabeth (McNeely) Stevenson. He grew up in Webb, MS, and later attended Mississippi State University.

An avid outdoorsman, Vernon spent most of his career and his free time in nature. Whether it was protecting the wetlands with the Corps of Engineers, working for the State of Mississippi inspecting dams, or studying the birds and the trees in his own backyard, he was always out “poking around.”

Between his wit and his humor, he could always “learn you somethin” or make you laugh and often times, it was both. If you ask his beloved wife, Linda, of 48 years what the key to their long marriage was, it was that sense of humor.

He is survived by his wife, Linda (Warnock) Stevenson, his son Brian Stevenson, his stepsons Jim Kindhart (Annette) and Corey Kindhart (Karen), grandchildren Joshua Kindhart, Ashlee Kindhart, Heather Kindhart Brooks (Caleb), and Alyssa Kindhart, great-grandson Maverick Berry, and his brother Dan Stevenson. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Mike Arthur Stevenson and Joe Jackson Stevenson.

A visitation service will be held Saturday, August 30th from 9:30a.m.-11:00a.m. at Glenwood Funeral Home in Vicksburg, MS.

To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Charles Vernon Stevenson, please visit Glenwood Funeral Home’s floral store.
