Child fatally drowned at Vicksburg YMCA
An 8-year old child drowned Wednesday in Vicksburg.
Just after 3 p.m. Wednesday, Vicksburg firefighters and emergency personnel responded to the W.K. Purks Center YMCA at 237 YMCA Place for a reported drowning.
The victim is an 8-year-old boy, according to Vicksburg Fire Chief Craig Danczyk.
In a press release, the Vicksburg Police Department said that when officers arrived, CPR was already in progress on the victim. He was transported to Merit Health River Region and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The incident is under investigation, and updates will be provided when available.
In a separate incident Monday, multiple agencies responded to the 2700 block of Oak Ridge Road, where a child had fallen into a pool. The child was held at Merit Health River Region overnight for observation and is back home with family today.
