The City of Vicksburg closed the upper two levels of the North Parking Garage at Clay and Mulberry streets Sunday.

A resident reported that concrete had fallen near one of the joints in the concrete deck. Upon further inspection, a large pothole had developed on the fourth level near one of the joints.

Numerous city agencies responded, and Mayor George Flaggs Jr. made the decision to close the upper levels of the structure until a structural engineer can be brought in and inspect the joints and roadway inside the garage.

The two lower levels of the garage are open.

“Downtown remains open for business,” Flaggs said, “and there is plenty of parking available.”
