At its meeting on Jan. 24, the Mississippi Transportation Commission approved up to $202,500 in Federal Transportation Alternative (TA) Program funds to be awarded to Port Gibson.

In a letter addressed to Mayor Willie White, the Commission outlined the details of the award, which includes a required 20% local match.

“The City of Port Gibson would like to thank the Grant Committee and Commissioner Simmons for their consideration. Along with our Board of Aldermen, we plan to revitalize downtown Port Gibson and provide restoration for many other projects across the city,” stated Mayor White.

The funds are to be applied towards the project scope, with the final project termini to be approved during development of the project. This is welcome news for the community of Port Gibson, which will benefit greatly from this infusion of federal funds.
