City workers innovate solution for storm clean-up

South Ward Alderman Alex Monsour took a break from clearing debris Thursday to praise the city workers who have been working tirelessly to clean up fallen trees and limbs for weeks.
Crews created a solution allowing them to utilize a woodchipper to increase the capacity of each haul, making it faster and cheaper to get the neighborhood streets clear of storm debris.
“I told these guys if they would rig me up something where we could use this chipper…I would come out here and work with them,” Monsour said. “These guys are great.”
Monsour says that by employing the chipper, crews can haul away five times the amount of debris in each trip.
