A shooting at the Claiborne County Fairgrounds in Port Gibson, Miss., on Wednesday has left one person dead and one hospitalized.

Darius Bryant, 20, of Port Gibson, was shot and killed. Chris Early, 20, a Vicksburg resident, is hospitalized at the University of Mississippi Medical Center suffering from gunshot wounds. His condition is not known.

Three people have been arrested in connection with the incident. Terry White 19, of Port Gibson, is charged with aggravated assault. Jadarius Warren, 20, of Hermanville, Miss., and Jamal Jefferson, 20, of Port Gibson, are both charged with hindering prosecution and rendering criminal assistance.

“We have been working around the clock to bring these individuals to justice,” said Claiborne County Sheriff Edward Goods. “Our information leads us to believe [Bryant] was an innocent bystander.”

The sheriff believes some form of gambling was involved. He also indicated that the shooting was part of a running feud between several people and was connected to disturbances last weekend around the Waffle House in Vicksburg. His office is communicating with neighboring agencies to bring all involved to justice, including the Vicksburg Police Department.

The three suspects were arraigned in Claiborne County Justice Court Friday afternoon before Judge Mareesha Odom, who set White’s bond at $100,000. Warren and Jefferson both received $50,000 bonds.

“There are others out there involved in this,” Goods said. “Come turn yourself in today. I made a commitment to bring a new day to Claiborne County, and I will carry that out.”

Goods said he anticipates making more arrests and said the charges against the suspects in custody will most likely be upgraded pending further investigation.
