Comegy remains as the last JSU coach to have a great season

Former Jackson State University Head Coach Rick Comegy remains the last Tigers coach to find success with the organization.
Comegy led the Tigers from 2006 to 2013 where he had a 55-35 head coaching record with the team. He also led JSU to a 2007 SWAC Championship with an overall 8-4 record and 7-2 in the SWAC.
In the eight seasons of Comegy’s leadership, the Tigers remained the top team in the SWAC East Division for six of those years.
Comegy had a great reputation for leading teams to greatness prior to his arrival at JSU, back when he was the head coach of Tuskegee Institute.
In the 2013 season, which was Comegy’s final year with JSU, the Tigers went 8-4 and lost a close game to the University of Southern in the SWAC Championship. He was unexpectedly fired shortly after the season and went on to coach at Mississippi Valley State University.
Since Comegy’s departure, JSU has hired four different head coaches who have not come close to Comegy’s success.
JSU is currently under the leadership of Deion Sanders where they are 3-3 in the spring football season, with a good number of transfers that will be playing in the fall and will have a heavy impact on the Tigers’ future success.
