Commissioner Andy Gipson releases statement over Mud Bug Festival shooting

Mississippi’s Agriculture and Commerce Commissioner Andy Gipson released a statement concerning the events at the Mississippi Mud Bug Festival. At around 10 p.m. on Saturday, six people were shot. Four were hospitalized and one was dead after a shooting broke out at the event.

Hinds County Sheriff Tyree Jones said that at least two people were detained, both juveniles, and that two rifles, one pistol and a large amount of different-caliber shell casings were recovered. A law enforcement officer, whose name and department have not yet been released, is said to have shot and killed one of the potential shooters.
