Local radio personality and beloved media star Chris Burks passed away after a series of heart attacks and a stroke yesterday afternoon.

Burks had been in ill health for the past few years. Those issues were exasperated by personal life traumas, including separating from his wife in 2023 and losing his longtime position as the on-air personality at 101.3 on March 4, 2024. As the radio guy, he was always available to help out in a fundraiser, assist someone else with their event, and even go so far as to help the competition if it benefitted the community.

Chris Burks was a rare gem in an often harsh industry, where loyalty is often overlooked, and cutthroat tactics are the norm. He stood out with his immense heart and love for everyone, a truly unique and inspiring quality.

Chris was also a talented voice actor. If you followed his social media, you know his many voices, imitations, and creations. All of them are wholesome with a bit of self-deprecating bite.

The news of Chris Burks’ passing was a profound shock to many. His recent struggles to find employment in a niche field were known. Still, his upbeat personality remained steadfast until just a few days ago when he bravely shared his situation, reaching out for support.

The number of people he touched is being told all over the community this morning as testimony after testimony is posted to social media. “Of all the people I have ever met, this guy was one of the best.” “The world lost a good man last night.” “You were the best man ever.” “He was the sweetest.” “You are one of the very best friends and people I ever knew.” “His kindness and enthusiasm touched many lives.” “Burks never met a stranger and had the biggest heart I’ve ever seen.” “He was kind, smart, funny..a real gem in the community.” “Rest in Peace, Batman!!”

And, “I hate you, Kyle.” If you know, you know.

Tanya, the love of his life, said, “He was never in pain or frightened. He knew we were there, and he went surrounded by love.”

Another friend, who, like so many of us, only knew him from his voice or online interactions, said, “Chris, you were more than just a voice on the radio; you were a beacon of positivity, a kind soul who never failed to make others smile. You may have left this world, but your memory will continue to resonate in the hearts of those you’ve touched.”
