Caroline Simmrall Hood (Submitted by the family)

Claiborne County Coroner J. W. Mallet has named the person who died in the single-vehicle accident on Fisher Ferry just across the Claiborne County line.

22-year-old Caroline Simrall was killed instantly when the Infinity in which she was riding left the roadway and struck a tree on the passenger side. The driver of the vehicle remains in critical condition.

The driver was to originally be transported to Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg by a medical helicopter as UMMC is full from COVID-19 and was unable to accept any new patients. However, because of the dire situation and fear the victim would not survive the re-route, clearance was granted to arrive at UMMC.

Warren County Deputies responded to the call because the location was near the county line with Claiborne County. Deputies and a fire medic unit traveled about a mile and a half into Claiborne County where they found the wrecked Infinity. Claiborne County units were dispatched to the scene and took over the investigation.
