Corps website now includes updates on Yazoo Backwater Project
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has included an update to their website so area residents can stay informed on the Yazoo Backwater Project (YBP).
In 1941, the Flood Control Act authorized the YBP, designed to protect against higher water levels on the Mississippi River. This was in response to the removal of the Eudora Floodway Project from the MR&T Project in Arkansas and Louisiana.
The YBP included drainage structures, levees, and pumps to effectively remove rainwater from the Delta during times of highwater on the Mississippi River.
The page where area residents can stay updated can be found on the ERDC website.
