COVID-19 deaths and cases continue rising in Warren County, record 498 cases reported statewide
Monday, the Mississippi State Department of Health reported another death and eight new COVID-19 cases in Warren County.
The cumulative number of cases in the county is 214, and the county’s death toll of 12 includes eight residents of long-term care facilities.
MSDH began reporting the names of long-term care facilities with active COVID-19 outbreaks across the state last week. In Warren County, the facilities, along with cases and deaths as of June 2 are:
- Heritage House Nursing Center: employee cases 14; resident cases 38; resident deaths 7
- Shady Lawn Health and Rehabilitation: employee cases 1; resident cases 0; resident deaths 0
- The Bluffs Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center; employee cases 2; resident cases 0; resident deaths 0
Statewide, MSDH reports a record 498 new COVID-19 cases Monday, bringing the total cumulative confirmed cases in Mississippi to 17,768.
MSDH also reports Monday that 20 additional Mississippians died of COVID-19 statewide, bringing the number of deaths in the state to 837. The state’s mortality rate for the virus is about 4.7%.

Nine confirmed COVID-19 related deaths between May 13 and June 1 were identified through death certificate reports. The additional deaths are reported in the following counties:

Deaths and new cases were reported as of 6 p.m. Sunday, June 7. MSDH reports new statistics on the COVID-19 coronavirus each morning based on the previous day’s testing and death reports.
MSDH has estimated the number of people who can be presumed recovered from COVID-19 in Mississippi. That number is 11,203 through Sunday, May 31. This figure will be updated weekly. It represents about 63% of the cumulative 17,768 cases reported as of Monday, June 8.
Based on the number of cases reported Monday, June 18, in Warren County (133), the estimated number of people presumed recovered is 121, or about 56.5%, with 81 active cases.
These estimates are based on MSDH’s guidelines for calculating estimated recoveries when hospitalizations are not known, using the number of cases 21 days ago, less known outcomes (deaths).
As of Sunday, 357 Mississippians are hospitalized with confirmed cases of COVID-19, and another 228 patients are hospitalized with suspected infections. Of those hospitalized with confirmed infections, 133 are critically ill and in intensive care units and 69 are on ventilators. MSDH had not provided updates to hospitalizations Monday at the time of this report.
