Two children are dead as a result of a log truck crashing into a motor vehicle on State Highway 547 in Claiborne County Tuesday afternoon. A third child and an adult are critically injured.

Claiborne County Sheriff Edward Goods initially reported that there were fatalities in the accident. That information was later confirmed by George Hudson, county supervisor and chief of the Port Gibson Fire Department, who said the victims included three children and two adults.

One adult and one child were airlifted to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. Two children died at the scene. A fifth passenger, an adult, walked away from the crash with minor injuries.

At this time, there is no information on the condition of the log-truck driver.

Claiborne County Fire Chief Chauncey Walker and firefighters Capt. Robert Byrd and Richard Ellis responded to the crash along with units from the sheriff’s office.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
