David Zack Chaney, 1951 – 2022

David Zack Chaney was born on Dec. 31, 1951, in San Angelo, TX. As part of a military family, he lived in several places before joining the military himself, just before the Vietnam War.
After discharge, he went to work for Hycaloader Co. in Lake Providence, LA, until they closed. David had 3 boys, Michael, Zack, and Chris, and 3 grandchildren Aden, Gavin and McKensey. He went to work at the Vicksburg District Corps of Engineers in the early 1980s, retiring in 2017.
David and Tracy combined their families in 1998, adding Emily and Erin Jackson to his family. He was very much loved and appreciated for stepping up as a new father all over again. He became interested in Racewalking, achieving a ranking of #4 in the state of Mississippi. He loved to go RVing with friends and family to explore historic sites, churches and antique shops. He enjoyed cooking and approached it as an art form—studying and experimenting with spices and equipment–achieving meals that made the family prefer to stay home instead of eating out!! He was a good man and will be sorely missed.
He is also survived by his mother, Mozelle Chaney, brothers Johnny (Brenda) and Mickey (Karen) and his sister, Susan (Wolfgang) Buck, as well as nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, John Chaney and two brothers, William (Bill) Chaney and Bryan Chaney. A Mass of Resurrection will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sep. 24 at St. Michael Catholic Church, 100 St. Michael Place in Vicksburg. Visitation will be at the church from 9 a.m. until the hour of service.
Memorials may be made to Paws Rescue, P.O. Box 13, Redwood, MS 39156 or Safe Haven Rescue MS, P.O. Box 3993, Brookhaven, MS 39603.
