Debra Dottley Brumitt, 1953 – 2023

Debra Dottley Brumitt passed away on Sunday, February 19, 2023. She was born and raised in Vicksburg, Mississippi and was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church. She was a loving wife, daughter, sister, aunt, and a friend to many. She dedicated her life to her family.

Debbie graduated from H.V. Cooper High School and the University of Mississippi. She was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority and served as chapter advisor for many years. As a teacher, she touched the lives of many children in the Vicksburg and Oxford public school systems and was one of several educators instrumental in writing the kindergarten pilot program for the state of Mississippi.

She then began her career in the publishing industry. Along with her husband Woody she published “Golf for Women” magazine and two cookbooks, Tailgating with Rebel Greats and Miss Mississippi Cooks. Debbie was Director of Marketing for River Region Hospital and later served as Director of Marketing for Ameristar Casino in Vicksburg and The Grand Casino in Tunica, Mississippi.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Woody Brumitt; her parents, Nina and Kayo Dottley; her brother, John Albert Dottley, Jr.; and her great nephew, Grant Houser. She is survived by her sons Aaron Huang and Eric Huang; grandson, Jacob Huang; sisters, Nina Dottley Rocconi (Larry); and Dani Kay Dottley Thomas (Gary); brother Billy Joe Dottley (Teresa). Nieces and nephews:Larry Rocconi Jr., Courtney Rocconi Houser, Jason Dottley, Will Dottley, Jordon Dottley, Taylor Thomas, Rachel Thomas Anderton, Ann Garson Thomas, and John Tillman Thomas. Great nieces and nephews: Gray Houser, Sarah Jacobs Houser, Anne Marie Rocconi, Ellie Rocconi, Randall Dottley, Joey Dottley, John Proctor Dottley, Bodie Dottley, and Drew Anderton.

We will gather to celebrate her life on Friday, February 24, 2023, at First Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will be on Thursday, February 23, from 5:00 to 7:00 at Glenwood Funeral Home and on Friday at 1:00 at the Church. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Billy Joe Dottley, Will Dottley, Larry Rocconi, Sr., Larry Rocconi, Jr., Bob Houser, Gray Houser, Gary Thomas, John Tillman Thomas, Andy Anderton, and James Grant.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, Rainbow Farms, or a charity of your choice.
