Decorate Washington Street Park sidewalks with chalk art

Are you looking for something different, artistic, unique and free to be a part of? Look no further.

The Vicksburg Farmers Market will be hosting a Chalk Art Day Sept. 21 from 8 to 11 a.m. in the Washington Street Park.

The event, aimed toward making the Fall Farmer’s Market more inclusive, will display artwork from anyone who would like to add to the exhibit, and all are welcome to do so.

“Basically, what we wanted to do, since the fall farmers market is a community event, is to have a community engaged activity to go along with it,” said Rebecca Tarver, Vicksburg Farmers Market organizer. “We thought chalk art was a great way to incorporate the community directly into the event, and it would be fun to do. We already have the space for it, since it’ll be outside, and it seemed to go along with what we were doing.”

Everyone is encouraged to bring their own chalk but there will also be chalk offered by the Vicksburg Farmers Market.

“We have some kids activities, but we really hope to have more events like this,” Tarver said. “We hope that people who have never been down to the market before will want to come down for this, or that it will catch the attention of people who have been before and want something different. It’s going to be an entirely different atmosphere.”

For more information on Chalk Art Day contact the Vicksburg Farmer’s Market through its FaceBook page.

“It’s going to be a fun day for all,” Tarver said.
