Deer season opens tomorrow for hunters with guns and dogs
For Mississippi hunters with guns, deer-hunting season officially kicks off tomorrow, Saturday, Nov. 23.
In the Delta region, from tomorrow through Sunday, Dec. 1, hunters with guns and dogs can hunt for bucks on public lands, and for deer of either sex on private land and in the Holly Springs National Forest.
Hunters with guns have two more opportunities to bag a deer this year. For those without dogs, the season is from Dec. 16 to Dec. 23, and for those with dogs, they get an additional time, from Dec. 24 to Jan. 22, 2020.
For archers, the season ends today, Nov 22, and resumes Jan. 23 to Jan. 31, 2020.
The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks has a handy fact sheet with all the rules and regulations. Download it from the MDWFP website.
Deer hunters should have their kills tested for chronic wasting disease, and report any deer acting abnormally or that appear sick. When field dressing, wear latex or rubber gloves. Download a fact sheet on CWD, and find out about MDWFP sample collection here.
