Story from DSU Athletics:

CLEVELAND, Miss. – Delta State University and head football coach Todd Cooley have agreed to a contract extension for the four-time GSC Coach of the Year winner with the Statesmen Football program.

The Statesmen have won 21 games over the last two seasons under Cooley, including two GSC Championships and two NCAA Playoff berths.

“It’s an honor to be the head coach here; I’ve said that since day one,” said Cooley. “I thank God every day for this opportunity. I appreciate our administration and the confidence they have in our staff. We have a really good culture here. We’re excited about the last two years, but we also want to be even better.”

Delta State Football boasted the top-ranked offense and the third-ranked defense in the GSC last season. The Statesmen have also won an impressive 12 straight games on the road since the beginning of the 2022 season.

“Our football program has achieved success in the classroom, in the community, and on the field in recent years under Coach Cooley’s leadership,” said Director of Athletics Mike Kinnison. “Continuity and retention of coaching staffs is a top priority for continued success, and we look forward with excitement to the program’s future accomplishments under Todd’s direction.”
