Destiny Sims wins MHSAA Sportsmanship Award

Sophomore Destiny Sims is no stranger to Vicksburg High School basketball fans as she has continued to show off her skills on the court and has now led the Gators to a district championship.
Friday, Sims won the Sportsmanship Award from the Mississippi High School Activities Association for her performance against Callaway where the Gators won 60-43. Sims scored 16 points and had eight steals and, with the help of Yakia Burns, who scored 14 points, the Gators walked away as champions.
Burns and Shakora Knight have stepped up big for the Gators this year. Both are putting up impressive numbers on the court. In the game against Callaway, Knight scored seven points to add to the big lead.
Averaging 12.7 points per game, Sims has made a major improvement from her freshman year where she was averaging 7.3 points.
After winning the district championship last week, the Gators earned a first-round bye week and will host Cleveland Central on Friday at 6 p.m.
