In what can be described as a miracle, Dillon Mabe will survive his injuries.

Mabe was in a horrific accident on I-20  near the Bovina exit on Sunday, Dec. 5, 2021.

On Dec. 6, 2021, the Vicksburg Daily News reported his condition and the family’s dire situation. A couple of days later, on Dec. 9, 2021, we sadly reported that it didn’t look good for Mabe and that we could lose him at any time. Ten days later, on Dec. 19, 2021, we reported that Mabe was beating the odds but was not out of the woods.

According to his fiance, Chloe Pampanelli, “Dillion’s working to come back. He’s still foggy in his mind and saying all kinds of stuff. He doesn’t really have much control over what he’s saying.” Pampanelli goes on to report he passed some critical tests that will allow them to remove his tracheotomy. She said “Everything is healing well. Still needs surgery on his right collarbone. He tried to get up all night last night.” Once his trach is out he will be moved to Methodist rehab for cognitive training and physical therapy.

He is stable but he has extensive brain damage including parts of his brain that have died.

Pampanelli assessed, “All in all he is doing well,” and notes that Mabe recognizes her and has started calling her “baby”. “He doesn’t say many names though. He says Evan, his brother’s name. His brother comes up here every day to hang out with us, he moved here from Indianapolis. He’s a real good guy,” she added.

“Dillion is beating the odds. I don’t understand how he could live through being thrown such a far distance, 140ft, landing on his head and not come out semi-normal. No one survives things like that, I feel like there has to be some reason for it,” concluded Pampanelli.

Pampanelli went on to offer her thanks to the community that has been so supportive, “I can’t tell you how wonderful everyone has been. Such good people here, we live in such a great place.”

What Pampanelli didn’t say was how dire her financial situation has become. Dillion was the breadwinner and had just started a high-paying job that changed their lives for the better. Pampanelli was raising the kids and they were living the life. Since the accident, neither of them has worked and Pampanelli has struggled to keep everything caught up.

A fundraiser has been set up on Facebook and PayPal. for those wishing to show their support.

Pampanelli expressed her desire to make sure that everyone knows what their support has meant to them, “David, please make sure you thank everyone for their help.”
