The Vicksburg Animal Shelter is looking for the owners of a dog rescued from a bayou after being thrown off the Polk Street bridge.

An anonymous caller reported that “a group of kids” had thrown the dog over the bridge, and it was trapped in the water below.

Kacie Lindsey, shelter supervisor, said the rescue was difficult because of the steep incline.

Lindsey also said the dog is not a stray, and they are looking for its owners.

To claim the dog, Lindsey said the owner must be able to say what is printed on the collar, the animal’s name and gender, and provide other identifying information.

Lindsey can be reached at the Vicksburg Animal Shelter at 601-636-6982.
