Community leaders Emmarie Flaggs and Oneka Washington have teamed up to offer solutions to domestic violence.

“There’s a lot of talk about what’s going on as far as domestic violence is concerned. There is a lot of awareness but where is the solution?” Flaggs asked. “We’re ready to start this talking and walk into a solution.”

The forum will have members from mental health, someone from the medical field, legislators and pastors who will give a true insight into what domestic violence looks like.

“Getting the community involved as a whole and discussing solutions and we’re gonna have professionals from all walks of life to inform the public about these solutions,” Washington said.

Although the forum will speak on the victims of domestic violence, it will also shine a light on the aggressors in these situations and ways to prevent them from snapping.

The event is sponsored by the city of Vicksburg, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and assistance where needed by Kimberley Nailor.

On average, nearly 20 people per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner. Changing the cycle is one of the key reasons for this upcoming forum. Attendees are guaranteed to leave differently than they came by the end of the event.

The forum will begin at 3 p.m. on Sunday.
