Don Howard Wilson was born on January 13, 1952, to Rev. and Mrs. Dale Wilson, Jr. He graduated from Chamberlain-Hunt Academy in 1971, and married Nan Guthrie in December of that same year. They eventually made Port Gibson their home, helping Nan’s father Fred run the family business, Claiborne Hardware Implement Co. and later Claiborne Car Care Inc. Don soon got involved in many aspects of community life. He volunteered with the Port Gibson Fire Department, and worked to improve the facilities at Claiborne Educational Foundation as well as at the swimming pool on Drake Hill and was an active member of the Mosswood Country Club. He served as President of the Board of Chamberlain-Hunt Academy. He was elected a Deacon in the First Presbyterian Church of Port Gibson in November of 1990. Don was always making others smile with a good story or joke to tell. Don was always willing to help others and could fix just about anything. He enjoyed being outdoors on family land and planning and taking family vacations to Disney World. While he was loved by many, he was principally devoted to his family.

Don died Tuesday, September 19, 2023. He was 71. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Dale and Mary Jane Wilson and his brother Dale Jennings Wilson, Jr. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Guthrie Wilson, and two daughters, Nancy Jane W. Bowers and husband Freddie and their son, Brodie, of Jonesboro, Arkansas, and Donna W. Wimberly and husband Rhett and their children Georgia Kate, Rhett, Adeline, and Judith, of Eunice, Louisiana. Services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday, September 21, 2023, at the First Presbyterian Church in Port Gibson with the Rev. Michael Herrin officiating. Burial will follow at Wintergreen Cemetery under the direction of Glenwood Funeral Home of Port Gibson. Visitation will be at the church from 2 p.m. until the services. Pallbearers will be Kevin Keaton, Shreve Guthrie, IV, Spence Willis, Marsh Willis, Freddie Bowers, and Rhett Wimberly, Sr. Honorary pallbearers will be Brodie Bowers and Rhett Wimberly, Jr.
