Dottley Spice Mart, located at 5626 Highway 61 South, has closed its doors, laying off at least 48 workers.

The company was a subsidiary of international food conglomerate the Kerry Group, which acquired the store from the Dottley family in 2017.

Kerry representative James Egan confirmed the closure Tuesday but declined further comment saying only, “We are working with our team members through this.”

Dottley Spice Mart was founded by the late John “Kayo” Dottley in the 1950s and was carried on by his son William “Billy Joe” Dottley and other family members.

The company produced specialty seasonings and shipped them worldwide.

Our attempts to reach members of the Dottley family have been unsuccessful as of this writing.
