DeShawn Douglas was released from jail Monday on a $75,000 bond, reports WAPT.

Douglas, 18, a native of Vicksburg, was charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of Christopher Miln, 54. Initially, Douglas was denied bond. There is no indication that the charges against him have been reduced.

Douglas and Miln were involved in an argument Dec. 28 that ended in Miln losing his life. Police say the altercation was over a property dispute. On a video captured by a neighbor, Douglas and Miln argued, then the dispute became physical. At one point, Miln appears to have spit at Douglas. At another point Miln appears to wrestle Douglas to the ground.

The video ends before the shooting. Miln was shot at least four times and died of his wounds.

Douglas left the scene and was arrested without incident after a short search.

“We will continue to investigate the case and we look forward to bringing the case to a favorable resolution in the near future,” wrote Douglas’ attorney Scott Gilbert in a statement released Monday,

In an earlier statement, Gilbert said his client acted in self-defense.

“Shawn and his family had been victimized by Miln’s threats of violence for months,” Gilbert wrote Dec. 31. “These threats were not only directed at Shawn, but at his 13-year-old baby brother.”
