South Park Elementary School principal Dr. LaToya Sims-Allen has been chosen as the Vicksburg-Warren School District Administrator of the Year.

Allen took over as principal of South Park in 2017 after spending three years as principal of the Hollandale School District and she is now seeing all of her hard work paying off. She enjoys her job as principal as she is able to witness the students grow and achieve great academics before they leave elementary.

“What I enjoy most about being principal is being able to interact with students, fostering an atmosphere where students would want to come, and assisting teachers in promoting the growth of all students,” Allen said.

Not only does Allen set goals for herself, but she also has high expectations for the staff of teachers that work with her at the school.

“My philosophy of teaching is driven by my belief that educators should provide excellent classroom instruction and provide students with the education they themselves would want for their own children and family,” Allen said.

After spending many years teaching math, science, and social studies, Allen is very excited to serve at the administration level where she has found much success.

“I am both honored and humbled that my colleagues chose me as Vicksburg-Warren School District Administrator of the Year,” Sims said. “I am deeply grateful for the love and support of my family. I give credit of my success to the Lord. PSALM 107:1, Oh give thanks to the Lord, for He is good, for His steadfast love endures forever!”

Allen was born and raised in Vicksburg and is a proud graduate of Alcorn State University, where she received her Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Master’s in Education. She went on to earn a Education Specialist in Educational Leadership degree and a Doctorate of Education from Mississippi College.

Allen is well-respected in the school district and throughout the Vicksburg community, and many people continue to wish her well in all of her success.
