Dr. Robert Charles Clingan, 1937 – 2022

Dr. Robert Charles Clingan passed away on May 19 at the age of 84.
He was born in Canton, MS, reared in Ridgeland, MS and attended Madison Ridgeland High School. He attended University of Mississippi, Millsaps and UMC. At Ole Miss he was a member of the Honors College and graduated UMC as medical doctor. He immediately joined the US Army and was sent to Brook Army Hospital, San Atonio, Texas. From there he and his wife Captain Nancy Clingan, RN was sent to Qui Nhon, Vietnam as part of the 67th Evacuation Hospital. He served his country faithfully and left the Army as Lt. Colonel. He then entered into private practice in Honolulu, Hawaii for twenty years. He returned to Mississippi and chose Vicksburg as his home for the next 20 plus years.
He was predeceased by his wife Nancy H. Clingan, (Captain, retd), sons John Hugh Clingan and Alton Howe Clingan, parents Alton Clingan, Sr. and Rosa Hardy Clingan, brother Alton Clingan, Jr and nephew Carl Clingan.
He is survived by his wife Joyce Hall Clingan, sons Howard W. Mansfield (Kimberly) and Daryl F. Mansfield (Pamela), grandson George Blanton Mansfield, niece Kaye Clingan and nephew Keith Clingan.
A celebration of life will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, May 23 at Glenwood Funeral Home, led by Russell Hawkins, Brenda Hawkins and Richard Ferguson. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the hour of the service. Interment will be in Jessamine Cemetery in Ridgeland, MS.
Honorary pallbearers will be Kenneth and Polly Jacobs, Richard and Kit Axtell, Keith Clingan, Kaye Clingan, Juanita Verucchi, Thomas Hardy, Joe Hardy and Rita Graham.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Blair Batson Hospital, Jackson, MS, or Paws Rescue.
