Drive-by victim being treated for wounds as police conduct investigation

Earlier Friday, there was a drive-by shooting incident in which reports indicated a 16 year-old male was wounded multiple times.

At 5:33 p.m. Friday, the Vicksburg Police Department responded to the shooting, which occurred in the Court Street 1800 block.

The victim has been confirmed to be a 16 year old male. He was wounded in the back and legs and was transported by ambulance to Merit Health River Region where he will undergo treatment.

Witnesses state the vehicle involved in the shooting was a small, red hatchback – possibly a Toyota Corolla.

Vicksburg Police were on scene at the time of this reporting. This is an active investigation and we will update the story if any new details emerge.

The victim’s name has yet to be released.
