Drug take-back events yield over 200 pounds

The Vicksburg Police Department and the Warren County Sheriff’s Office participated in the National Effort to take unused prescription medication out of area homes this past Saturday, April 24.

Danielle Williams, Crime Prevention Specialist for the Vicksburg Police Department, said their agency took in just over 97 pounds of various drugs at their locations at Walgreens and Walmart respectively. Sheriff Martin Pace says 117 pounds were surrendered at their location at the Outlet Mall.

According to Pace, the items are inventoried, photographed and weighed according to DEA specifications. The DEA then promptly disposes of the medication in a safe and proper manner.

If you have unused medication that you need to dispose of, you encouraged to contact either agency for assistance. The VPD maintains a drop box located at the Police Department for this purpose year round.
