Eagle Lake community meeting announced for Feb. 1
Earl Wallace, chief of the Eagle Lake Fire Department, has announced a meeting to discuss the potential of flooding on the lake in 2020 and to organize a community effort in the event flooding occurs again this year.
The meeting will be held at the Eagle Lake Methodist Church (16785 state Route 465) on Saturday, Feb. 1, starting at 1 p.m.
Wallace says all members of the Eagle Lake community are invited, whether they live there full or part-time, as well as interested stakeholders in the South Delta. Various area agencies have been contacted to have representatives at the meeting.
In 2019, more than 550,000 acres in the South Delta were underwater for months, and most of the houses at Eagle Lake took on water, which caused devastating damage to many structures. Roads were closed, and some folks used boats to get to their homes. Cleanup, demolition and repairs, which began in August, are ongoing.
