Eagle Lake Fights Back

Published

on

“…to the last I grapple with thee; from hell’s heart I stab at thee; for hate’s sake I spit my last breath at thee.” – Herman Melville, Moby Dick.

Eagle Lake Firechief Earl Wallace is leading the charge to take one more stab at saving a part of Eagle Lake.  He received information this morning that the water may only rise .15 feet. Based on the new information the Chief thinks there may be a chance to save Highway 465.  Here is his message(edited):

“We are making a last effort today to save Hwy 465. The information I received this morning is the river is only coming up another .15 feet. At this level, the backwater is at the same level as the river. That is around 98′ for us.

We are going to bag sand and place along 465 between the public landing and Eagle Lake Shore Drive. If we succeed at this we can keep the highway open. The lake will increase to rapidly rise the next 2days to at least 96 feet by Monday and equalize early next week.

At least we can beat part of this disaster. Anyone able to help us it’s now. Come to the public landing. The USACOE will be back this morning to fill bags.”
