Community members have pulled together to help a local family after their home was destroyed by a fallen tree.

Just before 7 p.m. on Wednesday, a tree fell on an Eagle Lake home occupied by Verda and Anna Sanchez. Both were able to get out with assistance from the Eagle Lake Fire Department. Anna ended up with a concussion and is still having a bit of pain in her shoulder.

Within minutes of the tree falling, a dozen or so Eagle Lake residents and family were on the scene to assist. In addition to their home, two cars and a truck were also destroyed.

Friday, two days after the tree fall, the entire Eagle Lake community came together to assist the Sanchez family. Several community members reached out on the Eagle Lake page on social media offering assistance. An account was set up at the Yore Store for anything the family may need, a GoFundMe was set up so the community could donate to the family and Eagle Lake Baptist Church will be hosting a benefit for the Sanchez family and Mackenzie Milburn. Milburn had a tree fall on her house and entrap her for over an hour breaking her pelvis.

For those who wish to donate to the fund at the Yore Store, it is best to drop by, but you may call them at 601-429-1289. You can click this link to donate to the GoFundMe set up for the family or stop by at the family home on Hwy 465 and make a direct donation. The family has been there day and night clearing debris and collecting whatever has survived.
