Sgt. Kelvin Mixon of the Edwards Police Department has died of COVID-19.

In a social media post Thursday, Edwards Police Chief Terrance Crump announced the death to the public.

“Our hearts are heavy with sadness and tears, as we announce the passing of our brother Sgt Kelvin Mixon (Edwards 3) due to COVID-19, but our memories are full of love and kindness that he gave for over 20 years of service to Edwards Police Dept,” Crump wrote.

Edwards Mayor Marcus Wallace quarantined the police department for 48 hours June 18 because of a possible COVID-19 case. All employees were tested and the department closed until results of the tests were known.

It is not clear if Sgt. Mixon was the reason for the quarantine, or whether other cases emerged from the testing.

“Sad day for the town of Edwards as we mourn the loss of one (of) the most dedicated officers I’ve had under my leadership,” Wallace wrote on social media Thursday. “Whenever I called, he was coming. This is truly a tough one.”
