Elbert Dean ‘Spunky’ Sprouse – 1949 – 2020

Elbert Dean “Spunky” Sprouse lost his battle with cancer and passed away peacefully Dec. 25, 2020. He was 71.

Spunky was most proud of his service time in Vietnam. He loved to fish and hunt and spend time with his family and friends.

He worked for the City of Vicksburg Fire Department for a number of years and then the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on the Dredge Jadwin and the Dredge Hurley.

Spunky was preceded in death by his mother, Minnie Ruth Sprouse, and his father and stepmother, William Henry and Della Mae Sprouse; his brother William Delmer Sprouse; sister-in-law Terri Sprouse; sister Nancy Adair; and stepdaughter, Leigh Ann Murray.

He is survived by his wife, Darlene Blaine Sprouse, his daughters Lesley (Mike) Lambert of Poway, California, and Kelli (Les) Moss of Eddy, Texas; stepson Chris Blaine of Plano, Texas; brothers Doris (Pat) Sprouse of Cleveland, Mississippi, Horace Sprouse of Rio Rancho, New Mexico; and sister Norma Lowery of Collinsville, Texas; grandchildren Riki Slayday and Madison McGill of Poway, California, Zoe Slayday of Petal, Mississippi, Paige Sprouse and Zachary Leist of Eddy, Texas, and Lofton and Graham Murray of Belton ,Texas; great grandchildren Logan Stevenson, and Mayson and Layla Rae Slayday; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Saturday, Jan. 2, 2021 from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Glenwood Funeral Home. Services will be at 11 a.m. in Glenwood’s chapel. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Noah Brownlee, David Miller, Hank Hodges, Leslie Moss, Gerome Cooper and Bobby Moore.
