Elijah Qualls arrested for shooting victim in the neck
On June 22, 2019, at about 4 a.m., a witness called 911 stating they saw two vehicles driving side by side on southbound state Hwy. 27 when one of the vehicles left the roadway and headed off into a deep ravine.
When first responders arrived on the scene of the accident, just outside the Vicksburg city limits, they discovered the driver, Marlon Robinson, had suffered a gunshot wound to the neck.
Detective Sam Winchester with the Warren County Sheriff’s Department investigated and identified a suspect in the shooting, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
Yesterday afternoon, Sept. 24, at around 3:30 p.m., Vicksburg police officers came upon the suspect, Elijah Eugene Qualls, 20, in the 1300 block of Bowmar while working an unrelated crime.
Officers arrested Qualls and turned him over to the Warren County Sheriff’s Office where he is in custody. He is expected to be brought before the judge in the next 24 hours.
Robinson, the 31-year-old victim, has since recovered from his wounds and has been released from the hospital.
