Missy Gators Softball Head Coach Brian Ellis has been named the Vicksburg Daily News Softball Coach of the Year.

Ellis, who has been the head coach since 2013, led VHS to a 11-13 season this year as they reached the first round of the playoffs.

Although Ellis had many young athletes on his roster, he still managed to lead the team to big victories, including a 24-0 win over Canton and a 11-10 win over Ridgeland to win the district championship.

The Missy Gators lost a few games due to them giving up a few big innings, but Ellis was still very pleased with his young team’s performance.

“I’m very pleased with the things that we did this year,” Ellis said. “I always preached that the little things create big success.”

Eliis has had plenty of help this season from his assistant coaches Hugh Guest and Samantha Bailey, who both put in plenty of work with the team.

“They both made a big difference and they care and have high passion to help these girls,” Ellis said.

Winning the Coach of the Year Award is well deserved for Ellis as he continues to put his concentration on making his team stronger.

“It’s very humbling and I’m winning this award simply because of the hard work of the team,” Ellis said.

The Missy Gators season came to an upsetting end last week after they defeated New Hope in a three-game series but the last game was ruled to be replayed, and the Missy Gators lost the final match.

Although their season didn’t end as as planned, Ellis continues to work hard with the team and has big plans of playing for a state title in the near future.

Ellis is now the first coach to win the VDN Softball Coach of the Year Award and his hard work and dedication shows that he was an excellent choice.
