7:35 a.m. – Entergy Spokeswoman Sheila McKinnis said, “From a peak of over 9K we are down to 4975 left to be restored. Up to 35 broke poles with only 50% of the damaged assessed. We should get a lot more restored today.”

Entergy has additional crews on hand to help expedite restoration.

Yazoo Valley Issued the following statement on Wednesday evening:

*Update 8:00 p.m.* 5/5/2021

We have made great strides today in restoring power to our members. Yazoo Valley has worked tirelessly since the storm began yesterday, only taking breaks to eat and move to the next location. We have restored power to more than 2,000 locations today and look forward to restoring power to most, if not all of the remaining locations without power tomorrow. Given the danger and exhausting nature of the work, rest is a necessity and not just an option. That being said, we have brought all crews in for the evening to rest and they will start hard again early in the morning restoring power to the members of this Association. It is very important at this point in the restoration process to report your outage if you haven’t already. You can report your outage by calling 1-866-484-4277.

Rome wasn’t built in a day and unfortunately power restoration follows the same line of thinking. We are receiving assistance from Killen Contractors and Pontotoc Electric Power Association. We can’t thank these companies enough for their help. Without relationships with contractors and sister electric cooperatives, our work would be that much harder. If you see these companies out working in your area, give them a wave and a thank you, I know they will appreciate it the same way our crews do. Your appreciation and support is the fuel that drives them to complete the job.

Please remember to stay away from downed powerlines. They may be energized or become energized at any time.
