As part of a military engineering project, researchers at the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) will be conducting a series of tests that will result in audible blasts at the Waterways Experiment Station in Vicksburg this week.

The testing will occur between 10 and 11 a.m. on Wednesday and Thursday in an area just southeast of Wisconsin Avenue and Porters Chapel Road. During the one-hour periods on both days, researchers will use a propane cannon for acoustic signal characterization testing, and there will be eight to 10 blasts without any projectiles being fired.

The ERDC Geotechnical and Structures Laboratory will conduct the testing. The organization addresses some of the world’s toughest civil works and military engineering challenges through a unique combination of laboratory experimentation, materials characterization, full-scale field testing and high-performance computational analysis.
