Ernest Paul Seals Jr obituary

Ernest Paul Seals, Jr, went home to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, December 13, 2022. Paul was born on March 2, 1942, in Pensacola, FL to Ernest Paul Seals, Sr. and Ouida Vernell Nettles Seals.

Paul grew up in the quaint town of McComb, MS, where he loved learning about the railroad from his PawPaw Seals. He later moved to Clinton, MS, where he attended high school and soon met the love of his life, Alice Catherine Marsalis Seals. Paul and Alice were married on June 18, 1961, and they went on to spend 61 wonderful years together.

Paul joined the United States Air Force on September 1, 1960, and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War while stationed at Andersen Air Force Base in Guam.

After being honorably discharged in 1967, Paul returned home and soon began working for South Central Bell as an engineer. Paul and his colleagues worked together to develop fiber optic communications that would later pave the way for the development of the internet.

Paul’s boyhood fascination for the railroad developed into a love for model railroading. His hobby quickly turned into a small business, building detailed model train layouts for various malls and displays.

After retiring from South Central Bell in 1993, Paul and Alice decided to begin a new chapter in their lives as they picked up and moved to Abilene, TX. Here, he enjoyed new experiences while working the field with his friend, Pat Stockton, and sharing his knowledge and stories as an Interpretive Ranger at the Abilene State Park.

One of the things Paul loved the most was his time volunteering at Frontier Texas. He thoroughly enjoyed sharing Texas history with all ages of visitors as a Tour Guide. In fact, the past two summers he was fortunate enough to be included in the Saturday Shoot Out with his son and grandson, retelling the story of the famous “Pine Street Shootout” in downtown Abilene.

Paul is survived by his wife, Alice; his brothers, Wayne (Shari) Seals of Abilene, Texas, and Roy (Judy) Nelms of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; three children, Catherine Shearer of Yellville, Arkansas, Saundra (Andy) Vogel of O’Brien, Florida, and Steven Seals of Abilene, Texas. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Andrea Shearer and Justin Shearer of Yellville, Arkansas, and Peyton Seals of Abilene, Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Ann Jeanette, his daughter Bonnie Seals, and his beautiful granddaughter Saundra Renee Worley.

The visitation will be held on Thursday, December 15 at 4 pm at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 Highway 277 South, Abilene, TX 79606. Graveside will be Sunday, December 18 at 11 AM at City of Vicksburg Cedar Hill Cemetery, 326 Lovers Lane, Vicksburg, Mississippi 39180.
