Estrell Red Hambright passed away Friday, June 17th, 2022, in his home of Vicksburg, Mississippi.

He was born February 10th, 1938, to George Fred Hambright and Birdie Lee Dedmon Hambright. Red grew up working as a sharecropper for Oakland Plantation in Redwood, Mississippi. He worked for Rose Oil and Anderson Tully before he spent 48 years driving and distributing Miller Lite beer for Rivertown Beverages. He was known around town as the “beer man”. After his retirement, he spent the rest of his years as a repair man with Robert Smith.

His greatest passion was music. He was a self-taught musician who held a love for the saxophone and drums. Red played in several bands for over 70 years. He established Little Red and the Reversables, who went on to play in almost every juke joint in Vicksburg, as well as a variety of television shows. They were known statewide and were even used as back up for well-known artists.

He met the love of his life, Sally Jeanette Emfinger Hambright, playing one night. They were married for 62 years and leave behind four generations of family.

Red enjoyed the outdoors, especially if it meant he could spend his day on his tractor. He loved dogs, his beautiful wife and family, restoring and collecting old cars, blues music, and being a jokester. He could bring a smile to all faces. Estrell Red Hambright left a rather large mark on the city of Vicksburg.

Red is survived by his four children, Anna Jones (Bill), Wayne Hambright, Linda Johnson (Marion/Bo), and Julie Baxely (Bill); seven grandchildren, Karie Lynch (Wayne), Catherine Roy (Josh), Tabatha Keen (Jay), Dustin Jones(Shelley), Corey Jones (Corrie), Joseph Stubbs(Anna), and Justin Baxley (Heather); eighteen great grandchildren, Caetlyn Roy (Johnathan Brown), Landen Johnson, Preston Lynch, Dalton Roy, Maddox Lynch, Macie Jones, Jaxin and Kamdyn Fulgham, Paxton Lynch, Carson Jones, Kaydence Stubbs, Tanner Jones, Kyla Baxley, Clay Jones, Harper Jones, Lainey Baxley, Cyrus and Clark Stubbs; and one great great grandson, John Ridge Brown. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sally Jeanette Emfinger Hambright; his parents, George Fred Hambright and Birdie Lee Dedmon Hambright; and his siblings, Sallie Hambright Tedder, George Hambright, twin sister Estell Hambright Welch, and Flora Mae Burris.

In celebration of Red’s life, a visitation will be held at 9 AM Tuesday, June 21st, 2022, at Glenwood Funeral Home, 145 US-80, Vicksburg, Mississippi. Services will begin at 11 PM, following the visitation. Interment will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. The pallbearers include Dalton Roy, Preston Lynch, Maddox Lynch, Dustin Jones, Corey Jones, Joseph Stubbs, Justin Baxley, and Landen Johnson.
